Waimea Fall 2013

NYC-Based Waimea is Bringing Surf-Inspired Clothes to the Big Apple

Surfboards and big waves aren’t the first things you think off when New York City comes to mind. However, a few companies in the Big Apple itself have been changing that notion over the years, and another has just arrived: Waimea.
Named after a famous Hawaiian surf spot, the brand introduces a series of print-heavy goods for its first collection this fall. You won’t find any wet suits or slippers with beer bottle openers. Instead, the brand is taking a streetwear approach with designer Ross Fredman bringing his extensive print-centered design background to a collection of tops and bottoms. Camo sweaters and shirts, paisley-sleeved raglan tees, floral designs, and trippy prints make up most of Waimea’s first collection.
Fredman’s resume includes stints at Troop Apparel, being Trend Director at Footlocker, and designs appearing on big names like Rihanna, so it’s safe to say he’s capable of doing something big. And with Waimea still in its infancy, who knows, we might get some all-over print surfboards down the line. Visit the Karmaloop website to shop.
